MANIFESTO
This is a space of retaliation against thoughtless opera productions, lackadaisical singers touted as stars for branding purposes.
It’s a small gesture in opposition of the complete disregard of tradition seen today and the disregard for the major strides made by dedicated musicians of the last century and beyond.
The aim is that it will help reinstate the quality of performances by creating a counterpoint (great singing), not simply through deriding lazy and poor singing (though surely that will have its place here too).
Here you’ll find performance reviews, news, oddities and sometimes things that have nothing to do with opera, but rather embody the tenets of fine musicianship anyway!
*The name comes from a longing conversation with a friend about how nice it would be if there were an opera-loving Ear Nose and Throat surgeon/felon who, under the cloak of night, would strike and perform a Vocalcordectomy on a singer who is disfiguring a role.
